Objectives

The objective of this project is to design, develop, integrate and validate in Valencia innovative real-time IoT services running on top of fog computing infrastructures. The target is to enable smart city applications, allowing citizens to easily access IoT-based knowledge in real-time (for example answering questions such as “Is there traffic in the city center?”, “Will I find a parking spot?”, “What is the current level of CO2?”). The services will collect data from locally-connected IoT devices and will process them on edge nodes. Thanks to the locality of data processing,the services shall be able to meet requirements on timeliness, security and privacy of the data managed. The services will feature a chatbot-like interface, which will allow users to interact with the service in a human-friendly way. The focus will be on integration with the VLCi platform deployed in Valencia, which makes extensive use of FI-WARE GEs.

Expected results

  • Design and development of real-time IoT services running on top of fog computing infrastructure, including definition of common components, open APIs and interfaces.
  • Deployment and testing of such service in operational environments, including integration with Valencia VLCi IoT platform.
  • Experimental validation including involvement of citizens and other relevant stakeholders (in particular: local municipality and businesses) in the smart city of Valencia.

Planned secondments

14 months at Université de Rennes 1 (Rennes, France); 7 months at Las Naves.
